KQ3: Why is each point on earth unique?

LO1: Define Region, Formal Region, functional region, vernacular region.

Region: An area on the planet that is composed of places with a unifying characteristic.

Formal Region: A region whose boundaries are formally known as formal region. Ex. cities, districts, provides etc.

Functional Region: compasses a central point with defined boundaries and the area around it that is connected via a well-developed network of transportation and communication systems that facilitates the movement of people, goods, and ideas within that system.

Vernacular region: When places in the world share unifying characteristics, we tend to imagine these places being bound by an "imaginary border".

LO2: Compare and contrast the 3 different types of regions.

A formal region is a broad region with distinct boundaries that consists of cities states, districts, countries, continents. However, Functional region mainly focuses on transportation and communication systems, along with movement of people and goods. The Vernacular region is almost like there is no boundaries, and it was like an imaginary border, and is know by its shared characteristics but isn't specific.
