-Their diet consists of grains, grapes, olives and fish
- Lack of resources lead to them colonizing and breaking off into their own groups
- There temperature was 40 degrees in the winter and 80 degrees in the summer
The Mycenaeans:
- influence on Greece began in 2000 CE
-Located in a rocky ridge on Peloponnesus protected by a 20-foot thick wall
-The Mycenaean kings dominated from 1600-1100 BC
Trojan War:
- Greeks fought many wars over time
- Trojan war- fought around 1200 BCE
- Thought it was just a myth for the Greek culture until there was geographic evidence of a war
Dorians
-around 1200 BCE the mysterious "sea people" began to invade Mycenaean and burn palace after palace
-Dorians were far less advanced
-They didn't trade and caused economy to collapse
-Writing disappeared for 400 years
- Talk about a culture in decline
Homer
-Greek oral tradition- stories passed on by word of mouth Homer lived at the end of these "Greek Dark Ages"
-The Iliad- possibly one of the last couquests of the Mycenaeans
